Digital technologies in healthcare

An extension of the well-established ehealth-forum-freiburg.de

The healthcare sector holds an incredibly high potential for optimizations and savings with the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). At the same time, however, it is one of the areas that have benefited little from digitisation to date. The availability of technologies is in very few cases the reason for the slow introduction; rather, the biggest hurdle is the massive complexity of the healthcare system with its many participants.

Eight years of eHealth Forum

Transparent and intensive communication between manufacturers and developers of new technologies and service providers, health insurance companies and patients is therefore a basic requirement for developing functional and sustainable solutions together and introducing them into the system. The forums of recent years have shown time and again that the developments and ideas of the ICT industry often fail to meet the needs of users, and that industry participants remain among themselves at relevant events. The eHealth Forum Freiburg has so far consistently focused on the needs and problems of everyday patient care.
Here, new ideas and products were discussed and creative solutions were presented and developed with experts from all sides. The eHealth Forum Freiburg took place in 2018 for the eighth time on the premises of the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung (Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians), which were already far too small. The primary focus on outpatient care is also too narrow in the overall context. Therefore, the Baden-Württemberg: Connected e.V. (bwcon) organized in cooperation with Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG FWTM) and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg as well as other players from the healthcare sector.

New concept in the Freiburg exhibition hall started 2019

In addition to the training of physicians, a conference on digital technologies for the health care of the future will be held. It will focus on opportunities and challenges for patients, physicians, clinics and health insurers on topics such as electronic patient records, artificial intelligence and big data in healthcare, sensor technology and monitoring, hospital information systems and communication between those involved in healthcare, as well as general patient-centred and cross-sector healthcare control.
This includes not only computer-based methods of diagnostics (e.g. genetics), but also the production of personalized pharmaceuticals, a strong topic in research and industry in the border triangle oft the region.
Digitalisation means that knowledge of new technologies from research and development is indispensable for the competitiveness of the health care system. There are concepts such as the merger of companies to expand their own value chain or the integration of start-ups and their new developments.
Clinics and the everyday care provided by doctors‘ practices and nursing services for patients are bound to the billing framework with the health insurance funds. They are all interested in new solutions for products and services in order to realize savings.
Start-ups are looking for opportunities to present their products and/or services as exhibitors and speakers. An early merger with clinics, medical practices, suppliers, the health industry or health insurance companies can lead to a win-win situation for future-oriented and meaningful applications.
A larger trade show with technological and regulatory focus topics represents an offer which is certainly accepted by the B2B and B2C market.
